Hi have always wanted to ride a bike, well for the past 20 years and being stuck behind the wheel and totally jealous of my 3 biker bros have just decided to go through the process of learning before the test changes next year. Forum been a great help !

Thanks !

Hi thanks for all the welcome's ! great to know u guys are here as i really do need help. Helen is it better to go for regular training or an intensive course as im starting from scratch. How long does training usually last for ?

if you could give any advice to these questions it would be greatly appriecated as these are whats holding me back from getting started.

Hi quirky :)
ive started from scratch, i did my cbt on the 25th July, ive bought a little 125 to practise on, im going to get some miles on that then go for an intensive course, i think alot depends on the person, people are different so other people with probably think differently to me

Hi Sandra,

Personally, after my CBT I bought a 125cc bike and rode it around on L plates for a (long!) while and took a few lessons before tests. I would have preferred to get all of the training and test over and done with quicker than I did though. It was a matter of cost for me in the end, as I had put aside enough money for 4 days training for shortly after my CBT... and promptly went and spent that money on a guitar! Whoops...

A few people on this forum have said that they found that doing Direct Access as a week's course was good, with the test at the end of the week's training. But yes, it does depend on the person.

There is a lot to be said about getting a 125 and riding it on L plates for a bit until you get the hang of things, from my experience. It means you don't feel lost when you pass your test and are allowed to ride around on your own ;)

Hi Sandra
It all depends on how confident you are I took my cbt in Aug 2003 then bought a bike in march 2004 a suzuki 125 GZ a little cruiser. Rode it for a year then had some lessons with RJH I felt that I needed that time to build some confidence I passed on a restricted licence and have just bought my first big bike a 650cc Bandit. I love the whole experience go on give it a go.

A female work colleague has just passed her cbt she is a little nervous so she has bought a 125 to get more confidence then she will do her direct access. I think when you do the cbt you will know what to do.
