*gasp!*
Fairport Convention were considered to be Britain's first folk rock band. They released Liege & Lief in 1969 and it is widely recognised as being one of the most important folk albums of all time (some say THE most important!) That album still regularly appears in recommended listening lists, such as "1958-2008, 50 Years of Great British Music" (as is in the current issue of Q Magazine) Seeing as they only chose 10 albums from each individual decade, it says something that Q magazine chose it to be on the list!
The musicians who have taken part in the ever changing line up have invariably been astonishingly talented, including Sandy Denny, Dave Swarbrick and Richard Thompson. Highly recommended!
P.S. The Kinks made it onto the list too, with Village Green Preservation Society, of course!
