Adcice for a newbie...

Postby carl682 on Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:48 pm

Hi everyone I'm a newbie here with a life long love of anything with 2 wheels, taking my CBt next week then my Direct access.

My question is simple really, regardless of resale value (I keep my vehicles

till they are worth scrap value!) will ride in all weathers but not too many commuting miles.

What would you guys recomend with a budget of £2000

96-99 CBR 600
SV 650
Fazer 600
96-99 Thundercat

Love SV's but a relative had horrendous problems with rust from a month old :|
Opinions would be much appreciated please.

Im a Honda man :D
No I'm not boring, but appreciate the following... Reasonable price, Reliable, and do the job......
You need to ask yourself what you want a bike for? If its commuting, then forget the CBR, SV'S etc.... They would not be comfy...
However if you want something for Leisure, they would be great! Shop around, pass your test and try a few! Don't buy the 1st thing you see!

I can vouch for the SV650 post above, Dave passed his test with me a few years back! Well looked after bike.

Who are you training with?

Fast trak training Great Barr birmingham.

Nice SV always a bit wary after my relatives corrosion problems, but on the age i'm looking at should be sorted by now, either will be in a right state or well looked after if you know what I mean.

But do love the look of the copper and black CBR's

i would recommend the cbr, i have one myself, a 1998 model which i purchased for £2000, and it was in absoloute mint condition, and still is. only 12,000 miles on the clock too! Rob convinved me to go with Honda, as all his training models are, and they all are in good nick considering the drops, bangs and hard times they must go through!

go with honda, you will get a lot for your money!

Thanks for the advice guys (and gals) been adviced to book my direct access after they have seen my riding, whether I need a 4 or 5 day course as I have a few years experience from years ago, I told them to take me as a beginner

Thanks for the bike offers but moneys short at the moment, working 6 12hour days to get some spare cash together, just paid all my saviings out on kitchen, bathroom, conservatory now it's time to treat my self for the first time in 20 years :D
