Hi Dan, and welcome to the Forum.... :D

Most 500cc and 600cc would be a good starting bike for you......

Check out with the Insurance Companies for the Groups for different bikes, for example a Hornet 600 would be a lower group than a CBR 600 therefore cheaper

However as I am sure you will be aware, your age will not go in your favour, so start of cheap is what I say :D

Anyway, good luck with your DAS.

Hi and welcome to the forum :D

Theres a lot that influences your choice when it comes to your first bike, things like
budget (how much do you want to spend),

your height and build (you dont want something that you physically cant manage, but then if your a larger person you dont want something that will look stupidly small),

personal choice (you've got to look at it, you might aswell like it  )

Good luck with your test, and the hunt for the bike of your dreams.

Evening :D

Cheers for all your advice, Well i've booked my DAS today starting the 2nd of June.
From what i've read the U-turn seems to be a common failure within the test, Well I guess i'll soon find out!!

Lots of tips on here which is going to be a good help coming from experienced riders.

DO A PERFECT U-TURN
Whether you're about to take your test, or perhaps could do with a little practice, here are 4 steps to completing the perfect U-Turn.
1) Start to ride forward slowly before turning your head right round to look down and beyond your finishing point.
2) Turn the bars to full lock straight away and start to make your turn. Careful use of the back brake helps slow things down and gives more control.
3) On sports bikes or bikes with less lock, lean the bike over and move your body to the outside as a counterbalance. Put your weight through the outside peg too.
4) Feel like your tipping too far? Tempted to put a foot down? Don't. A bit of throttle will stand the bike up again-the same force stops GP racers from falling down at extreme lean angles. :D :D :D

Cheers yorki,

I'de love one or even ZX6R, but the insurance would be to much for me at the moment!
I think after getting through my DAS i'll look at some CB500 as group 9 on insurance!.
Perfect to start me off on and work up some ncb. :D

Dan

We use the CB500 for DAS, and I can tell you through my experience you would not find a better all rounder. You would not be dissapointed :D :D

Well i've finished my training today and my test is tomorrow.
I took in everyword the instructor told me and have been rideing fine - conquored the u-tun.
cb500's are great to learn on, not to heavy for me, nearly only dropped it once but -
that was for learning how to put it on the centre-stand properly!.

Many thanks for the tips, and the info on here has helped.. i've taken it with me on the training.

Hi Dan,
So tomorrow it is then? Where are you taking it?

Enjoy the ride, the examiner will see this, and it does help. Ride for yourself, and make your decisions as if you are out there on your own!

Let us know the outcome

Cheers,
I passed today with 6 minors, very chuffed! I seriously thought i'de messed up at one point!
I took along time to answer a question relating to carrying an pillion passenger, the examiner said
it doesn't matter as i'de passed anyway!.

The feeling is great, so now I just need a bike!. :)
