it is. the national trust is something i really like, my membership ran out this month. Good news there is that Georgina has already got the new cards through. So i can continue sitting in the pagoda at biddulph grange, watching the rain.

NB. Georgina is my other half, she's now looking at gear since i have a pillion seat in the garage.

Robi might be down with her for some gloves and definatly when you get the boots in.

Aha, you're a member. I went for the other option and volunteered for them doing countryside conservation. If you do 50 hours or more per year for them (in any voluntary role) you get a volunteer card, which is like free membership.

However, you don't have to move 340 miles away from home and do over a year's full-time residential volunteering for them, as I did. But it was damn good fun!

my otherhalf wants to work for the national trust and needs to do some volunteer work before she can apply for a paid role. how did you get into the volunteer position? she is finding it difficult as she cannot afford to quite work for it at the moment. and when she has enquired they always seem to want old folks (nought to do and all the time in the world).

It's quite difficult to get into the paid conservation sector. I struggled to find casual volunteering at first too. Eventually I spotted an ad for the National Trust at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal. I was able to do a day or two a week etc for them for a while. Then I found a residential volunteering position with the Trust in Cornwall.

cheers for those details, they are pretty conprehensive for the area and I think that they will be a great help. i'll pass all of them on to the other half and let you know how she fairs. are you coming on the ride out on the 1st of july?

I'm not planning to go on the ride out as I intend to be rather hung over that day It's also partially because my little 125cc probably wouldn't be able to keep up (no matter how hard I thrash it!)
