Advice, dropped bike.

Postby Illathen on Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:30 pm

Hi
I bought a Cagiva Mito on Saturday and have had it running a few times fine, today i took it out for a spin however when i came to step off the bike it overbalanced and i ended up holding one of the handle bars and staggering forwards and the bike fell against a grassy verge at the side of the road.
The bike didn't hit the floor hard at all and the only damage was that the right hand indicator has cracked however no the bike wont start up.
I have stripped off all the fairings looking for any loose connections or so on but I haven't noticed anything.

the bike was lying on its side for approx 8 mins while i had trouble lifting it up on my own.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Chris

Sounds like you could of flooded it?
Quiet often when a bike is dropped this can happen!
Keep trying, should start up!

Make sure all your fuel has not drained out of the tank?

ive tried starting it quite a bit it just makes a ticking sound.
There is still lots of petrol in the tank, almost a full tank.

There does seem to be a strong smell of fuel around the bike so do you know how i could definatly check if its flooded, thank you.

regards
Chris

p.s. there is no actual fuel leaking out of the bike anywhere.

Try changing the plug?

the spark plug? no i haven't tried changing or cleaning this yet though i have been advised by a friend that doing this will most likely solve my problem.
my next door neighbours son is a mechanic and is coming to take a look at my bike later on today so hopefully he will be able to solve the problem.
Thank you for the replies and advice, i have a lot to learn about bikes but hopefully one day i will be able to sort out these problems by myself.

Regards
Chris

p.s. if anybody has any unmentioned ideas please feel welcome to post as there is always the possibility that my neighbour will not be able to fix the bike.

Some bikes have a fuel cutoff switch that activates if the bike goes over to prevent fires if you slide it down the road. Likely this has tripped and needs resetting.

Just done a quick Google for fuel cutoff on these but nothing obvious - sounds like these things spend as much time off the road as on it though looking at the Google results!

I'd say check flooding as suggested, pull the plug and also check for obvious things such as did you accidently clip the kill switch when you dropped it?
