Hey

Postby fuse on Mon Jun 18, 2007 11:00 am

Hey everyone, thought i'd register on the forum having "lurked" for a bit :)

Im James, i did my CBT a few weeks ago with John and Robert.

I had been thinking about doing my bike licence for a few years but never really found the time to fit it in, but with the introduction of the new tests next year thought id better do it sooner rather than later! and ill be booking in to do my DAS later this year with any luck, just need to get the theory part out the way first.

Although i had planned on doing it later in the year my hand was kind of forced a few months back when i was put on a team sheet for a friends bike racing team! the things you agree to after a few pints :( but at least it was all for charity!. I thought it wasnt the best idea to go out totaly cold so i booked and did my CBT and had a few tries on the race bike before hand and all went well! You can see a pic of our race bike HERE - its more akin to the sort of bike robert mentioned in his intro :D (thats me in the black top on the right hand side)

After i do my DAS im aiming for a GSXR 750, but realistically its not a good starter bike so that will be a few years down the line, im looking for advice on a decent starter bike thats quite forgiving! ive been recommended the Yamaha Fazer 600's?

Anyway thats enough for an intro i think :)

Hi Fuse - welcome to the forum. Nice piccie

Don't wait too long for your DAS as it gets colder and wetter and we
laugh as we both got heated grips

As for 1st bike recommendations....it depends on what you want.
We all have a dream and don't be put off that just because someone
has told you that BMW's are rubbish for example.

They are by the way :P :P :P :P :P

Sit on as many bikes as you can and you'll find one you like.

The NEC show is a good place and we are thinking of organising
a day down there.

Just be sensible for the 1st bike. GSXR1000K7 you may find just a tad
twitchy, but a Kwaka ER5 boring. :(

Oh - and think about the insurance/servicing costs. A £200 rear tyre
every 1000 miles becomes a bit of a pain. I know this....

Look forward to seeing you on your lessons, John

The sooner the better with summer being here

John- what's the minimum and maximum mileage you've had out of your Hayabusa's back tyre? I know a guy who I think said his min was 700 and max was somewhere a bit over 1000.

there's good advice on here as to first bikes, sometimes it's good to get your leg over as many as you can. It's down heartening to find that you can't reach the floor on your new pride and joy after you have paided out.
There can be a lot said for just following your heart, i speak from experience as i have my first big bike after my DAS. It may not be everyones first choice for a first bike but as far as I'm cocerned it's great. Remember you don't need Suzuki's new A,B,C Mapping you have the best mapping ever seen in your right wrist.
this is what i brought as a first bike... seen here at the castle in congleton, meet my girlie for a drink (juice for me);

nope, things keep conspiring to against me to get it done. Being dragged to france for a holiday next week - and im recovering from our last round of racing atm, i have the imprint of a c90 nobbly tire up my left leg where someone tried to pass me a little too close :D

Helen...although there are other tyres that fit a busa, Suzuki only recomment a BT56J. I found this to be quite good for road use.

I also know someone who only gets 700 miles out of a rear - but he does ride it a little harder than me.

Perhaps I'm a girl  but I learned some time ago that ANYTHING with 150 + bhp needs a little bit of care.

I guess you could get 3000 miles out of a rear at a push....but whats the point in having a quick machine and then ride it like a Honda Deauville?

To be honest.....................it became addictive and so it had to go

Now to a bike that has more character than one I've had in a long time -
my Yammy XJR1300. I like him :P :P :P

c90 racing is a cracking laugh, even if some ofthe teams take it all a bit serious, can have a look at a few videos of it here:

http://www.sparkyslider.co.uk/forum/sho ... php?t=2800

http://www.sparkyslider.co.uk/forum/sho ... php?t=2709

all makes it seem so slow, but feels like about 70mph when your on it :D we may need a few riders for next season if anyone fancys a go :) (providing we can get the bike sorted again, its kind of broken atm)
