Donors?

Postby concretesnail on Wed Jul 18, 2007 1:21 pm

I just was just wondering, not on a morbid note, but how many of us here on the forum are organ donors?

I know that sounds morbid but it is a genuine question. We, as riders, may say that joy of riding isn't tied to the fact that it is dangerous and makes us feel alive. That's a lie though.
We all know that deep down that the feelings we have, the joy we feel is, inpart, due to the fact that it is dangerous.
I don't know about the rest of you but just think; everytime i get on my bike i am putting my leg over something that, dispite a few knobs amd whisles, is an engine designed to go like stink.
(epsecially those of use who own supersports, litre class and muscle bikes)

i know that this topic is news at the moment due to the government wanting to change the system but i think that it is something that all riders should consider as what we love puts us at the 'higher' end of the percenages when considering which indiviuals are likely to be in positions of making a donations.

I've been on the donor register for a long time, I dont see why two or more familys should suffer the loss of a loved if my parts could save lives, after all if I'm dead I'm hardly going to need them am I

I've been on the donor register for a long time because I had two school friends with cystic fibrosis both of whom had heart/ lung transplants (one died after complications but the other went on to live a very full and active life)

the way I see it if I've not got use for it and it still works, someone else may as well have it

it is important that you make sure your relatives know what your wishes are though - to avoid any unnecessary distress

as a side note - it's also very important to consider giving blood because in the event of accident you will almost certainly need this - my friend had a nasty accident and almost lost his leg (and life) - without donated blood it would have been a completely different outcome for him - and since they changed the rules over who can give blood, supplies do come under considerable strain in some areas
How many times can one person drop a bike practicing those dread u-turns?

i agree to the blood giving, i have been a hit and miss donor of blood. have tried to give as muchas i can but contact with diseases through work and friends (mumps etc....) haven't been able to give as much as i like. Before this latest run of bad luck i wasn't allowed as i have stuck bits of metal in bits of me....
