Charity Ride

Postby rjh_786Bn on Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:10 pm

I am planning on a Charity Ride one weekend in Spring/Summer from John O'Groats to Lands End .

It would be the complete ride, non motorways, and within 24 hours!

I have a couple of riders who will be participating, however if you are interested in joining in then let me know.

I am looking to recruit for the project the following! Treasurer, Navigator, Operations, Photographer and Marketing.

You will be required to fund the running cost yourself, including accomodation both ends.

I will post a costing, including dates etc.... soon

It is thought that a combined sum raised could be distributed amongst numerous charities of our choice!

I'm quite nifty with a camera you know, although I've not much experience at operations. Still, a Stanley Knife and a few plasters and there you go. Always willing to try something new (on someone else)

mmm Doctor John - sounds kinda catchy

It would be a pleasure to have you participate

This sounds fab - would love to do it if I had a bit more experience and a bigger bike (could do it on my 125 but I think you would need to give me say 2 days head-start??  ). As it is I am happy to volunteer for the support group if you would like, as long as I don't get all the girlie jobs!!

Just another offer - depending on how big this gets...

I could offer to use my van for basic support, luggage, simple
mechanical problems, food, first aid, clothing, tyre repair etc.

It's not big enough to transport bikes in but large enough for the above. Lets put it this way...no-one ever complained about the size

Just a thought

OK 2 Options to consider
Non Motorway Run = 900.6 miles approx 21 hrs 14 minutes
Motorway Run = 838.01 miles approx 16 hours 15 minutes

With pre-positioning and recovery, it is expected that the total mileage during the challenge will be approximately 2,000!

Is Non Motorway too much of a challenge in 24 hours, can it be done? I have potentialy at present 6 riders willing to participate, and will arrange a meeting shortly. Any questions please feel free to email me or phone me

While I would love to take part in this, I dont think my bike is economical enough to make it financially worthwhile, plus with Mel working shifts I'd have to bring the kids with me  But I wish all those that take part the very best, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Maybe those that cant make the whole trip could just tag along for a few miles while your travelling through Staffordshire/ Cheshire.
Is this where i write something witty and
interesting

That could be a good plan, once it is all organised and we know where/when we will be we can organise something

Hi Rob

Unfortunately as Mike works a 6-day week he probably won't have sufficient time to build up his mileage in time for the 'endurance ride' . Really like Yorkie's idea of having a group of us meet you en route and ride with you for part of the way - if it's a non-motorway stretch I could join you    else I can ride pillion with Mike. My offer still stands of helping on the support group so get in touch if you would like me to.

It would be best if the ride stared at around 5pm so that you are not too tired riding in the night, and do a mixture of Motorway and A roads?
I will have a good look at the map and see where best to use Mways
