Honda Deauville NTV650v

Postby Rjhmt on Sun Apr 29, 2007 8:30 pm

I was a born again biker having not ridden on the roads for close to 20 years in the mid 90's .
The laws had changed in that time and so I bought a Honda CG125 to relearn on and to do my test.
By law you can not ride larger having completed your CBT.
Having passed my test I changed to a Honda CB500, what a bike fantastic!
I enjoyed this for a few years but I wanted something larger engine wise and suitable for a little touring.
I found the Deauville!
I am not disappointed. OK a few little things - no fuel guage which I would have expected on a "mini tourer".
The panniers are on the small side but serve me well.
They hold sufficient for myself, however struggle with substantial A4 files.
I find the handling very good. I feel as though I am riding on rails. Remember this is not a high performance bike where one lies over and uses the knee!
It is a mature looking bike for people to ride 'with manners'.
I find the riding position fine but am considering changing the screen as it is too low to deflect wind and therfore there is quite a lot of noise.
My collegue has a more upright one than the original and it seems to do the job.
The fuel tank holds 19 litres and I manage 180miles -200miles per tank and I believe there is approx 25 miles in reserve.
Self servicing is easy as are routine checks and maintainance.
I find the bike easy to wash and to keep clean.
I write this review as a user of the bike and it reflects my findings as an Instructor, commuter, tourer and someone who enjoys biking.
I am on my Deauville every day, I run my own Motorcycle Training Company, and my 1999 model Honda Deauville has covered 80,000 miles and I would be happy to get on her tonight and travel wherever, around the world no problem!
