paddock stands? lifts? creative alternatives?

Postby concretesnail on Tue May 15, 2007 8:23 pm

hey up

i have a question. doesanyone know of a way to get around the problemsof not having a paddock stand for a speed triple?
i'm trying to do all the work on my bike myself and not have to pay for mechanic charges.
i need to get my bike upright, level and slightly lifted to do an oil and filter change without the use of a paddock stand, as i haven't got and don't really have the cash for one. and my bike doesnt have a centre stand.

any ideas....

I know a guy who uses these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/categ ... sion-jacks

Paddock stands are worth their weight in gold, so a good investment visit http://www.bikeit.co.uk and I am able to get any in for you.

I have one you could borrow for a short while if needed!

Failing this, wood blocks and solid material blocks as a last resort!

More suggestions, and tips to follow I am sure!

Just the one now Rob, I dropped the GSXR600 last thursday 2 days prior to picking up the speed triple (not nice at all) I got rid of the Z1000 pretty sharpish, did not enjoy at all. I will pop up this weekend could do with some of that puncture stuff. What time Sat or Sun?

Hello Mr Snail

Now if you only had a friend he (or better still she) could simply
hold the bike upright while you drain the oil

Failing that a good rope around the frame and the garage roof beams
does the trick........

.......but a friend is nicer

:D

getting someone to hold it is a great idea...
i asked the girlfriend but she didn't want to hold it while i drained, changed the filter, refilled and checked. she said she didn't like the idea of holding / bracing the weight ofthe bike whilest being pulled on. she is only little after.

but it looks like a paddock stabd isthe only option as i have no roof beams

I'm not that lucky... a matt black1050 sounds sweet. Have you got the arrow stubby can on? I love that little stubby look, exposing all the air, swingarm.
I ride a T509 all in red. I know doesn't look too red here;
