NORTH WALES - Sunday 1st July 2007

Postby simplejim on Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:59 pm

Don’t quite know how this will go, but it should be fun. Everyone is welcome to come along. The route is fairly straight forward so there shouldn’t be any issues. Hopefully everyone who comes will get something from it. Everyone can ride at their own pace and won’t need to feel pushed.

Right, this is the plan for the 1st July.
It would be good to be away from RJH by 8am (I know, I know) but an early start will benefit us later in the day! We will briefly discuss the route beforehand, so meet at 7.45 at the latest.

Below you will find a map and a set of written instructions, I will bring printouts of these on the day, but it may be worth you having a look beforehand.

Please see Robs post in this section regarding group riding rules and etiquette. The route is quite simple for the most part and the roads of fairly good quality throughout.

I have a volunteer (Rich) bringing up the rear - he also knows the route.

A few points of note…

Although I was hoping for good weather, Wales can be quite unpredictable so it’s worth going prepared (for bad weather!) and checking the forecast beforehand.

The café at Bala may not be open when we are there, so you may want to bring something along. Betws-Y-Coed will be in full swing by the time we arrive though. There are plenty of petrol stations en-route, we can bob in when required.

The roads are generally good, but be aware that there are some fairly abrupt changes in the speed limit, especially when entering towns/villages. There are several speed cameras, which will be fairly apparent.

Incidentally, the North Wales police force has a well publicised history of enforcing speed limits and road legislation. While I don’t want to gripe and moan and whatever your opinion of the police, please adhere to the law.

Last of all, I hope that everyone enjoys the ride, any comments and criticisms will be fine.

That’s it, any questions I can be reached via the message board, or if it can wait until the day then so be it…thanks to those showing interest and lets hope for a good ride.

later

Jim

Boy was I a dissappointed bunny on Sunday all togged up and no-one to go riding with. I had gone out on Sat night to a hen party and got in about 12.30 (sober) so I had'nt seen my email from Jim. New waterproofs purchased, sandwiches packed I was off, my heart sank when I saw Rob wheeling out a scooter the only person around at the training unit.
For a few minutes i pondered I'll go anyway then common sense prevailed your sense of direction is a bit dodgy wait till next time.
So bring it on.
