Battery power

Postby Iain on Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:00 pm

I've installed heated grips on my bike.I'm also thinking of getting one of those heated bodywarmer things I've seen in a magazine.I think it connects to the battery in the same way the heated grips do.
My question is can I use both as long as the engine is running? Is it possible to drain the battery if I added any more electrical add-ons to the bike?
Iain.

Hi iain
i carn,t see you having much of a problem running your heated stuff
they are very low powered stuff so shouldent cause too much of
a drain
my wife as heated grips on her bike and what i advise her to do is to run the bike for a couple of minits before switching the grips on as this gives the electrics time to put the charge back in the battery that you ave just taken out to start bike with
also to switch them off couple of mins before she gets home to allow the battery to be fully charged before stopping engine

hope this helps :D
Is this where i write something witty and
interesting

Should be ok if your battery is in good condition! If its not or you are unsure a wise and essential investment would be an OPTIMATE 111 SP MOTORCYCLE BATTERY CHARGER

These can be purchased from our online store at http://www.motorcycle-store-online.com

You need to check the alternator output size for your bike. It should be in the Owners Manual.

A heated waist-coat should be about 100 watts, gloves about 30w and the same for socks. Trousers about 100 watts again.

Add this to the power consumption for your heated grips, together with any radio equipment powered from the bike.

Your lights need to be added into the equation, your headlight alone is about 50 watts, tail lights, brake lights, dash lights, and the consumption of the starter and fan......

.....it soons adds up rather quickly.

On top of all this, you have to allow a bit of charge to go back into the battery.

You could always try setting yourself on fire :D

That way, your bike will always start AND you'll be warm for the rest of your life :P :P :P :P :P
