Wuyang's parent company, Guangzhou motors group was formed in 1992.
It is one of the oldest motorcycle producers in China via their joint venture factory with Honda.
The Wuyang-Honda plant has been producing Honda motorcycles for the Chinese domestic market since the early nineties, including the Honda CG125.
Most of the component parts are produced in house thereby ensuring control over their quality. The same component parts are used in both Honda and Wuyang motorcycle production. Wuyang have a production capacity of 800,000 units per year and their engine plant can produce 1 million engines per year.
Some Chinese motorcycles can be sold for as little as $250 ex factory.
Many of the suppliers in China selling at this price level are assemblers rather than manufacturers, Buying in components from the cheapest supplier, and not necessarily the same ones on each production run.
Quality of those machines can be extremely poor.
The Chinese government has introduced a minimum quality standard in order to stop these bike damaging China's reputation, but still many of these bikes are finding their way onto the UK market via E-bay, etc without proper PDI, service or warranty.
While buying a new motorcycle for around £500 to £600 may seem like an attractive proposition, it often ends in disappointment when the buyer finds that there are no parts available and many dealers, quite understandably are not prepared to service or repair the machine.
